Boro vs Bolton 20/01/2007

today saw the boro take on bolton wanderers. Omens for this game were going well for boro and they were hoping they could continue there run of form and gd results. However Bolton were in 5th and pushing for a Champions League place. So at 3pm kick off will begin.

Within the first 10 minutes of the game Middlesbrough were 2-0 up. 1st goal was scored by Gary Speed, an own goal, not much he could have done to stop it but an own goal nonetheless. Abel Xavier put boro 2-0 up with a superb header set up by Stewey Downing, as was the first goal. Middlesbrough then went 3-0 up within the first hal hour through mark viduka, yet again set up by Downing, the ball managed to get thru everyone and came to viduka at the back post who slotted the ball home. A minute later Kevin Nolan slotted the ball home from the edge of the box to put bolton back into the game. However it wasn't Boltons day as Downing rifled in a right footed effort from 20 yards past Jaaskeleinnen. Boro went in at half time 4-1 and very happy.

Second half was very quiet compared to the first, but things picked up when El-Hadji Diouf was sent off for what appeared to be Foul and Abusive language towards a match official. Middlesbrough went on to seal the game splendidly after george boateng chipped thru for Cattermole down the right side and he crossed the ball to the centre and viduka fired home to wrap up the match.

Man of the Match - Stewey Downing for setting up the first three and scoring the fourth
